Biography

Prof. Zhang received his B.S. degree from Hebei University in 1984 and PhD degree from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry in 1987. He has been studying on membrane materials and separation processes in Tianjin Polytechnic University for decades. In 2002, he did research on ultrafiltration in Twente University as a visiting scholar. He was rated as the first level candidate for National Talents Project and the first level candidate for the “131” Talent Project in Tianjin. He is one of the experts obtaining Special Government Allowances of the State Council for his outstanding research in membrane technology.

  

Research direction and academic achievements

Research direction:

(1)New membrane material and functional membranes: material modification and molecular design, membranes for adsorption, affinity and molecular recognition; graphene membranes and patterned membranes.

(2) New membrane processes and their applications: membrane adsorption process, bioseparation, cleaner production such as desulfuration, large scale production of PES and PVDF hollow fiber membranes, wastewater treatment, wastewater reuse.

  

Academic awards

During recent years, prof. Zhang has been undertaking and leading nearly10 research projects, including supported by the National Key Research Project, National Natural Science Foundation, the Research Fund for the DoctoralProgram of Higher Education and the Tianjin Municipal Natural Science Foundation.Over 100 papers have been published in domestic and foreign journals, e.g. J. Membrane Science, Desalination, etc. Five monographs on membranes have been published.He received more than 10 national or provincial scientific research achievement including one state-level new product, one national ‘95’ excellent achievement. He won threeNational Technology Advancement Award(1995, Tianjin Technology Advancement Award/1998Environmental Protection Technology Advancement Award/1997,national Environmental Protection Technology Advancement Award)
